Phase two consultation - a new town council for Royal Tunbridge Wells

In June we asked residents, businesses, and community groups to share their views on the idea of creating a new parish and/or town council(s) to represent the six unparished areas of Tunbridge Wells.

Phase one of the public consultation demonstrated overall support for the idea of creating a town council. Of the 1,044 responses received, 60% were in favour of creating a new parish and/or town council(s), and of those, 67% said there should be one town council to represent the six unparished areas.

This second phase of public consultation is asking for your views on how a town council could work.

Have your say

During this second phase of public consultation, which is open until Sunday 30 November 2025, we are asking for your views on:

  • what a new town council should be called
  • the number and names of town council wards
  • how the town council wards should be divided
  • the number of town councillors

You can read the Draft Recommendations by clicking on the link below.

Why your opinion matters

Your responses will play a crucial role in developing the Final Recommendations, which are due to be published in February 2026.

Final Recommendations are the proposals made by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, after consultation, to establish a new town council. The Final Recommendations will be presented to Full Council in April 2026, and if approved, implemented through a Community Governance Order.

It is important that we receive as many responses as possible to help shape the Final Recommendations for a town council.
