Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is proposing changes to parking at the Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre car park on St John’s Road.
The main change is to introduce paid parking during weekdays, with charges applying Monday to Friday, between 8am and 6pm. Outside of these times, parking would remain free.
However, there are some important exceptions:
People using the sports centre will still be able to park for free for up to 3 hours per day, as long as they register their visit.
Sports centre staff will not have to pay when using designated staff spaces.
11 spaces reserved for school use will also remain free from charges.
If parking charges apply, the proposed prices would be:
Up to 1 hour: £1.10
Up to 2 hours: £2.20
Up to 3 hours: £3.30
Up to 4 hours: £4.40
Up to 24 hours: £5.50
The council says the aim of these changes is to make sure the car park is mainly used by sports centre users, rather than by people parking for other purposes..pdf)
This proposal is part of an update to the existing parking rules (the 2019 Parking Places Order).
Residents, users and other interested people are invited to share their views. You can support, comment on, or object to the proposal online or in writing.
The deadline for responses is 11 June 2026.
